It was a typical spring day in the Northwest with light rain for early morning set up, then partly cloudy with sunbreaks and intermittent showers. The robust squirrel population at Frontier Park (Graham, WA) did not disappoint and were in full sassy form to tease the dogs as they performed their tasks. The park was busy with birthday parties, lots of dogs enjoying walks with their humans, horses in the arena, and go cart races.
We had a record number of 12 teams entered this year. For three of the teams this was their first ever draft test and two of them had passing scores!! One team was absent. Out of the eleven teams that tested, eight teams had passing scores: three novice teams and five open teams. The open Veteran brace team (Leonberger and Newfoundland) did awesome, and it was so inspiring to see the veterans happily working. Pretty sure a good time was had by all.
Our very welcoming and helpful judges were Ruth Nielsen and Jennifer Brightbill (BMDCA). We are so grateful to have these dedicated individuals who not only love this sport, but are so willing to share their wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm, and support.
That brings me to all of the wonderful and helpful volunteers, this activity could not happen without each and every one of you. Margaret Au, our secretary, this is a daunting task and you do a wonderful job, thank you very much. Junko Ferguson for managing hospitality and financial issues. Lise Brandhagen for taking pictures. And to our Stewards - Maria Nelson, Celeste Boyer, Anne Olson, Hendy Appleton, Raj Natarajan and John Woodruff - many, many thanks!
It is such a pleasure to watch all of the dogs and their humans, working together and having fun. Pretty sure we all went home with the “best dog (or dogs)” and are looking forward to the next event.

Qualifying is a bonus, the real prize is spending the day with your dog, doing something fun.
