2022 LCNW Summer Regional Specialty

Saturday, August 20, 2022

In the summer of 1992, a group of Leonberger fanciers in Washington State put on the Northwest’s first regional specialty for LCA points. The LCNW would grow out of that great ensemble of fanciers, but that story will be told anther time. Instead, let us fast-forward thirty years almost to the day, we find the LCNW kicked off the 2022 specialty in much the same manner: at a forested state park near a lake on a summer Saturday morning.

The LCNW was delighted to have Judges Emily Fish and Marissa Clark to provide written evaluations for the 2022 Traditional Club Show. Hearty congratulations to all of the winners, and cheers to all of the Leos who were simply happy to be out with their people. The Day:

The 2022 LCNW specialty was muggy, but otherwise it was almost the best we could hope for in mid-august: overcast! Great Weather, Great Dogs and Great People from across our region – even California Leo friends from NCLC – turned out for the 2022 LCNW Summer Regional Specialty. Tents and crates went up around the great lawn at Nolte State Park – our stage for the day. The outfield held two side by side rings, the infield was home to overflowing raffle tables, a compact rally fun course (based on Beginner Novice obedience heel pattern), and a tricks station with several Leo sized boxes to explore for novice tricks.

The show opened with Baby Puppies and Peewees. They made the crowd smile as they ran, skipped and bounced their way back to their judge with so much sass and enthusiasm. Friends old and new visited, walked the lake loop trail, and more than one happy, wet Leo trotted back from the lake next to a slightly soggy handler. After the show concluded, members gathered for the RaffleMania and LCNW annual meeting. The re-elected 2022-2023 board are Erin Andersen (President), Junko Ferguson (Treasurer), Lise Brandhagen (Secretary), Wally Johnson (Member-at-Large), and Jody Woodruff (Member-at-Large).

The Prizes:

Class winners received ribbons with the top Leos receiving rosettes, a XL hedgehog, and an etched glass featuring the Leo from the LCNW Logo. The Specialty Winners each received a rosette, an XL hedgehog toy, and a large etched glass bowl featuring the Leo from the LCNW logo. The 2022 ring favor was a magnet featuring the beautiful Leo Wonderland logo.

Thank you all for your generosity! Thank you to each person who shared canopies, tables, and chairs with the club! Your ability to share keeps club costs down. And many thanks to everyone who brought raffle items! What an abundance! RaffleMania would have been mayhem without your borrowed tables and benches! To all who donated financially, your contributions helped provide ribbons, awards, catalogs, bottled water, and many other important details that help the day come together.

We could not have a successful day without everyone pulling together to help each other! I particularly enjoyed seeing many folks who were not exhibiting dogs in the specialty come to Nolte State Park to visit and volunteer! Thank you to all of the breeders who invited their recent and past puppy owners. You help our Leo community thrive!

Block your calendar now for next August: The LCNW celebrates 25 years of affiliation with the Leonberger Club of America in 2023. You will want to be a part of the fun with the oldest regional LCA Club. Watch for a Save the Date Announcement in early 2023.

Thank you again,
Lise Brandhagen, Secretary
On behalf of the LCNW Board and Show Chair
